NOW HIRING: WORK WITH US!

Farmers on the Square — Market Manager Part-time | Up to 20 hours weekly | Starting rate $18/hour

Our Mission Farmers on the Square (FOTS) strives to be a vibrant, welcoming marketplace in which a diverse community of producers and consumers celebrate superb, nutritious, and diverse agricultural products. FOTS supports local farmers and food security by making quality regional products directly accessible to community members, regardless of income, in a vibrant, producer-only farmer’s market. FOTS seeks to educate the community on the economic, environmental, health, and community benefits of supporting local food and sustainable agriculture.

About the Role We're looking for a highly organized, people-oriented market manager to oversee the day-to-day and season-to-season rhythms of FOTS. This is a part-time position averaging up to 20 hours per week, with some weeks lighter and others (around openings, special events, and board meetings) a bit heavier. The market manager reports directly to the FOTS Board of Directors.

What You'll Do

Weekly

  • Administer the Fresh Match program, including coupon counts and data entry

  • Coordinate music, guest vendors, and volunteer coverage for each market

  • Send the weekly newsletter with updated map, vendor list, and guests

  • Monitor and respond to communications including email and the PO box

  • Track vendor attendance and file any vendor rule violation reports

Monthly

  • Collect vendor sales totals and prepare the monthly manager's report

  • Attend the monthly board meeting (typically the 2nd Monday) and submit your report by the preceding Thursday

  • Meet with standing committees where needed

  • Coordinate vendor Fresh Match reimbursement checks and musician payment logistics

  • Ensure that insurance certificates and licenses for Vendors are current

Seasonally and Annually

  • Manage the full application cycle for regular season, artisan, and winter market vendors

  • Build and update market maps in coordination with the Vendor Relations committee

  • Assist with annual events and fundraisers as needed

  • Support end-of-year reporting, vendor experience surveys, and budget preparation

  • Communicate with donors

  • Represent FOTS to build mutually beneficial partnerships with local nonprofits, business associations, and community stakeholders

  • Complete grant applications for FOTS funding

Other duties as needed to support the organization's mission

You'll Thrive Here If You

  • Are a strong, proactive communicator who follows through without being reminded

  • Can juggle recurring tasks and seasonal deadlines

  • Have excellent time management, organizational skills and can manage a flexible schedule with minimal supervision

  • Are passionate about local food, community, and the mission of FOTS

  • Enjoy working with small farmers, artisans, and community volunteers

We Require

  • Working weekly on Wednesdays for in person market duties - roughly 12:30 - 8:30pm

  • Attendance at monthly board meetings - held in the evening on the second Monday of each month

  • The ability to tolerate variable weather conditions, as market is held outdoors year round

  • A personal computer and phone for job duties

  • Proficiency in Zoom and Google Workspace (primarily google docs) or the strong ability to learn

  • The ability to cooperatively work and interact with a diverse community

Preferred Experience Farmers market, nonprofit, event coordination, or community organization experience is a plus, but we'll train the right person. A genuine love of local food and community goes a long way.

To Apply Send an updated resume, cover letter, and at least 2 professional references to friendsofthefarmers@gmail.com no later than May 26th.
